Godfreys has been Australia and New Zealand’s leading vacuum and cleaning experts for over 90 years. In 1931, at a time when vacuums were typically sold by door-to-door salesmen, founder Godfrey Cohen bought 30 vacuum cleaners from the newspaper auction columns for $50 (the equivalent of about $2,300 today) and convinced his father to give him window space in the family’s furniture shop. This was the birth of Godfreys as a new way to sell vacuums to the public. After teaming up with his business partner John Johnston over a handshake, he opened the first Godfreys store in Melbourne’s historic Prahran Market and began growing the business throughout Australia. 90 years later, that initial $50 investment has transformed into over 180 stores across Australia and New Zealand, making it the largest vacuum retailer in the world and allowing us to reach over three million happy customers. As well as a wide range of vacuum cleaners from the world’s leading brands, Godfreys offers a variety of other cleaning solutions including steam mops, carpet shampooers and hard floor cleaners.
